CCAO-F FAQ

Straight answers about Claude Certified Associate: what it costs, how it's scored, how retakes and renewal work, and the concepts it tests. Exam logistics come from the sourced exam facts; the concept answers are rewritten from this site's own glossary.

How much does the CCAO-F exam cost?

Claude Certified Associate costs $99 per attempt, as listed on Anthropic's Partner Academy certifications FAQ (before any Partner Network tier discount). A retake is the full exam fee, and your tier discount applies to retakes too.

How many questions are on the CCAO-F exam and how long is it?

60 questions in 120 minutes, a mix of multiple choice and scenario-based multiple response, delivered by Pearson VUE online or at a test center. The FAQ advises planning for about 135 minutes of total seat time.

What score do I need to pass CCAO-F?

A scaled score of 720 out of 1000. It is a scaled score, not a flat percent-correct cutoff, so the exact number of correct answers required is not published.

How long do I have to wait to retake CCAO-F after failing?

Waits grow with each failed attempt: 14 days, then 30 days, then 90 days after the first, second, and third failed attempts. You can sit the exam up to 4 times per rolling 12 months.

Are there prerequisites for CCAO-F?

No formal prerequisite - no Claude certification requires another. Registration does require a work email on a Claude Partner Network organization's domain.

How long is CCAO-F valid, and how do I renew it?

It is valid for 12 months from the date you earn it. Free, non-proctored reassessment if renewed on time. Let it lapse and you retake the full proctored exam at full cost. No grace period is stated in the Partner Academy FAQ. Treat the 12-month date as a hard deadline and renew before it - if it lapses, the FAQ says you retake the full exam at the full fee.

What does the CCAO-F exam cover?

Its published blueprint has 7 domains: Output Evaluation and Validation (21%); Workflow Integration and Solution Design (16%); Governance, Risk, and Responsible Use (15%); Prompting and Task Execution (14%); Product and Model Selection (12%); Configuration and Knowledge Management (12%); Troubleshooting and Optimisation (10%).

Who is CCAO-F designed for?

Business, operations, and productivity roles that use Claude every day without building on the API.

What is multishot prompting, and when does it beat longer instructions?

Multishot prompting means giving Claude three to five varied, worked examples of the exact output you want, each in its own <example> tag. It is the usual fix when detailed written instructions still produce inconsistent format, tone, or judgement, because showing a pattern is more reliable than describing one in prose.

How do Haiku, Sonnet, and Opus differ, and which is the everyday default?

Haiku is the fastest and cheapest tier, suited to high-volume, simple, well-defined work. Sonnet is the balanced middle tier and the sensible default for most everyday business reasoning. Opus is the most capable tier for long, high-autonomy runs or single highest-stakes decisions, at higher cost and latency per request.

What counts as a hallucination in the Associate exam?

A claim that Claude states as confidently as everything else in the response even though it is fabricated, wrong, or unsupported. Typical shapes are oddly specific numbers you cannot verify, confident answers to inherently uncertain questions, and invented specifics such as a named case, paper title, or quote that sounds plausible but corresponds to nothing real.

Why use a Claude Project instead of pasting context into every chat?

A Project keeps custom instructions and an uploaded knowledge base across every conversation started inside it, for every teammate with access. That persistence means its fortieth conversation behaves like its first, without anyone re-explaining conventions or re-uploading reference material.

What does least privilege mean for Claude Console access?

Each person gets the minimum Console access their actual job needs, not the broadest role because it is easier to hand out. Roles are matched to the described job need rather than the job title, and revisited and narrowed when a contractor leaves, someone changes teams, or a pilot ends.

Does the Associate exam cover coding or Claude Code?

No. Its seven domains - prompting and task execution, output evaluation and validation, product and model selection, workflow integration and solution design, configuration and knowledge management, governance and responsible use, and troubleshooting and optimisation - are about using Claude, not building on the API.
